no heating controls - advice needed

    Hi.

My mother has a very simple oil central heating system with rads in her bungalow. I believe it has 2 zones, heat and water. She tells me the heat switch must be on in order to heat the water, so maybe it's only one zone?

House is 70's with insulation in the cavity and attic. Nothing over the top, but it does seem to heat up pretty quickly and holds the heat for a decent amount of time.

The only control she has is an old analog timer, which she just turns to constant when she wants heat. There are no thermostats (other than at the boiler) or anything like that on the system. Was thinking of introducing some sort of control(s) where the heat would be on when she gets up in the morning and comes on before she gets back in after being out. Maybe even to have it cycle when the room she sits in hits a certain temperature. At the minute the sitting room often gets too warm before she knocks off the heat.

What sort of options are available that are easy enough to install (possibly diy)?

    Thanks.
