    Hi all,

I have a mate who is either shy or lazy, but he asked me to ask for advice on a laptop he's thinking of buying. He's got a new job he needs it for, and they're not providing one, apparently.

He saw this one in some shop or other, thought it looked decent, he's not planning on buying it here, just I googled the model for him:

    https://www.pcworldbusiness.co.uk/catalogue/item/N216076W

I know bugger all about laptops, more of a desktop man, but I'm sure there are people here who can advise. So, with that in mind, here's the general what-for:

    Budget: €800-850 tops.
Intended use: Work. College. He'll be running Matlab and R code on it, it's for business data analysis.

Graphics not massively important, but better than potato quality.

Mobility: Not overly important, nor is screensize. Doesn't have to be too small or too huge or anything.

    Warranty: He can wing it.

What Operating System do you use? He'll be using Windows. Needs a legit copy too, but can get that elsewhere if required, I'm sure. Still, needs to be kept in mind.

It seems a decent system. The processor is great, having a decent sized SSD is a big plus and the RAM is about what you would expect to be honest. The battery life isn't supposed to be great on these machines which is the only concern I would have. He needs to make sure that 8GB of RAM is enough to run these apps also.
