Change name on Account

Unfortunately, my father passed away suddenly last week. Not sure how to phrase this but here goes, the ESB account at home was in his name and paid by direct debit out of his account. The only other person living in the house is my sister and she will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
Can she just keep paying the bill by setting up a new direct debit from her own bank account or do we have to close my dads account and set up a new one for her?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Hi charlieIRL,

We are extremely sorry to read about your father's sudden passing. Our sincerest condolences.

Your sister can indeed change the name on your late father's electricity account to her own name. This is not possible in other scenarios, but given the circumstances for your sister, an exception can be made. Here in the Electric Ireland Social Media department, we are on Facebook and Twitter as well as Boards. Or the relevant email address is on this page of the Electric Ireland website, along with the telephone number and live chat button.

We understand this may be a difficult message or call for your sister to send/make. We just need to let you know that the agent whom your sister speaks to will have to ask her for the following information: the Electric Ireland account number, address, your late father's name, and either his date of birth or the telephone number on the account.

The direct debit can then be changed over the phone on 1850 30 50 90.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

    Kind regards,
    Una
