I'm thinking of getting one of the above. Anyone have any first-hand experience of living with one? I'm thinking of buying new, keeping in long-term, and then using it for the kids to learn in. Any opinions / experiences welcome.

    Thanks, Wedgie.

They don’t do the 1.2 TSI in the Polo anymore AFAIK.

The 1.2 TSI was a 4 cylinder. The replacement is the 1.0 3 cylinder. I’ve only driven the 75ps non turbo version, it’s surprisingly good.

They do a 65ps version, 75 ps version (non turbo) is due out here in March, for the turbocharged 1.0 versions you’re looking at 95bhp with 7 speed DSG.

Then you’re up onto Golf money which has TSI as standard on the 1.0 (85ps vs 95ps though)

Yeah, no 1.2 in the new model and the 1.2 is scarce enough in 2016/17 outgoing models too.

Sorry, I'm based in Australia these days. We can get the Polo with this engine over here.

That's the old 2009 model as far as I know. New model won't be out in Oz till March

    Ms

Would it not be cheaper and quicker to get a new Hyundai i20 or a Kia Rio there and if they are like here then they have longer warranties than the VW too. Id say they would also be built better as well.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

They're also in the equation, as is the Fiesta.

I was just looking for someone / some people with first-hand experience of this engine in the Polo to offer their opinions / experiences.

My wife has a polo 1.2tsi 90hp dsg for the last 2.5 years from new. Very nippy, plenty of power even on motorway speeds ( easily accelerates from 120 to over 130 if you need to overtake). Consumption 6ish on motorways and during mixed driving around the city, though drops to 5l on long runs on country roads. So far the arm which controls the wipers was the only thing which was replaced under warranty.

Yeah, the 1.2tsi really makes a much better car out of them. It's a far nicer drive than the 1.0, more reliable too and not really any worse on fuel

I rented one and was amazed by the fuel economy over 2 weeks. The flywheel was banging on it though and there’s was only 15k on it. Lovely lump of torque on it too, so like a diesel but you can rev it too.

The 1.2 TSI in the Golf is impressive. Replaced now with the 1 liter version. That’s only 3 cylinder which would rule it out for me

The 1.0 is refined for a 3 cylinder to be fair

We have the Golf 1.2 Tsi 110Bhp, sweet engine, very refined, 75K Km on it in 3 yr (2.8 yr to be exact). 44 to 46 MPG. Matches my Audi 1.4TFSI Sport 1.4 in terms of economy only :)
