Convert Unicable LNB signal?

    Hi all,

Wondering does anybody have any experience with Unicable LNBs?

Long story short, I've got two coax feeds from outside my house going back to the patch panel under the stairs and I'm thinking it might be possible to use a Unicable LNB to get four feeds under the stairs? I can then hopefully use the second line of coax for Saorview signal.

Is it possible to convert the Unicable feed back to normal feeds that any box can understand? Or can I only use it with boxes that can accept Unicable LNBs?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The boxes will need to support Unicable.

As things stand, Saorview can share one of the cables, as it occupies a different frequency band to the satellite signals.

Thanks for the info folks. I know one of my boxes definitely supports Unicable, but will have to look into the other one and see if it does too.

Some Unicable LNBs have (or had) legacy output/s which might help if stuck.

Yeah the Inverto one I'm looking at on Amazon does. So i suppose I could run 1 coax for Unicable, and run a legacy connection plus Saorview signal down the second line using splitter/combiner.

Another question while I think of it. Is there any reason a Unicable LNB wouldn't work on a sky mini dish, or do I just need the usual LNB adapter in order to fit it to the dish arm?

There is also the possibility of using a Sat>IP device with multiple tuners under the stairs, and distribute the signals via LAN.

Something like the Telestar Digibit R1 will take a Unicable feed for its four tuners.

It really depends on a lot of things that are specific to your set up. ;)

I have assumed the LNBs are made for a standard dish and would not work (properly) on a Sky dish ........ but I also would like a definitive answer ;)

I've also heard/read mixed opinions on this, so hopefully somebody might have the answer! I've no issue putting up a new dish if needs be, but at the moment I'm trying to do all this on the cheap so if I could just buy a new LNB and leave it at that, it would be great!

HYBRID is what you are looking for

It has 2 unicable/Sky Q outputs and 4 Normal outputs. Pop out your old LNB...

Thanks STB. I thought Sky Q technology wasn't the same as Unicable? Again, I thought I'd read it somewhere.

I think you are correct. The Sky Q LNB is, I believe, not a true Unicable LNB so non Q receivers will not benefit from the FBC capabilities.

Openvix guys saying Vu+ Uno 4K will not operate as FBC on a Q LNB.

Correct, different tech, full band down each cable - no separate user bands.

However they do implement their own version of Unicable on their dSCR multiswitches and the SkyQ boxes will only recognise their own proprietary standard but I think the dSCR multiswitches are also compatible with the standard Unicable standard.

I wasnt actually aware that Sky had varied the FBC spec!

I took it at face value that they didnt. What a shower of fúcks.

Anyway you are right. The hybrid LNB linked above would be only suitable for a Sky Q and Freesat scenario.

I gather that the OP wants to have multiple feeds off one cable. Well the Sky Q LNBs are all veritcal on one output and all horizontal on the other, so that wont work if he is trying to feed an E2 box that does unicable.

Yup I'm trying to feed a zgemma twin tuner box I use for freesat, and a couple of other FTA boxes around the house.

Gonna check at the weekend, and if I'm lucky the existing coax might be in some sort of ducting that I can manage to feed another two cables down. If not I'll probably go with the unicable option on one feed, with a legacy feed and saorview down the second cable with a combiner.

Thanks for all the useful info guys...helpful as always.
