I have a friend bringing over an 09 c max with failed wipers for a quick look. I will have a look for obvious stuff but is there any common failure on them...... for anyone that deals with these regularly?

"Failed", as in they will not move?
    If so start with linkage.
    Check fuse.

Ah no its dead so its not the linkage and i will do basic checks but just wondering if there are common issues. I just read that water can get at back of passenger seat fuse box and cause problems - that kind of info could save alot of searching.
