A friend on mine worked in Ireland last year and overpaid tax, so is now due refund with P21 statement.
However he currently doesn't live in Ireland neither holds bank account in Ireland, or anywhere in the EU.
Can he put my current account details in tax return form on revenue My account online service and apply for tax refund? Once money arrives I would give him cash. Amount won't be big.
Would that be against the law, or even would revenue entertain paying back tax refund to someone else's account?

They should send him a cheque so no need to use your bank account.

He doesn't have Irish address, so cheque would need to be sent to foreign address. Not sure if that's easily achievable or what proofs of address are needed.
Also cashing Irish cheque abroad might be difficult, time consuming and expensive, so might be not worth it considering amount of tax refund is not significant.

Would be much easier to just transfer money to my account, hence the question.

Could he sign up for something like Revolut? That would give him a euro IBAN that he can use to receive his refund. Plus, the conversion rates are excellent so it'll give him the best value when he converts it to his local currency.

I'll check with all friend of mine (not Irish) who moved away last year and got a tax refund no problem without an Irish address. He kept his Irish bank account though so he may have got paid into that. Any of the non-Irish people I know who lived here and then moved on kept their Irish accounts so maybe that's why I haven't heard any problem with refunds from them.
