Retiling around bath

    Hi

I'm looking at tiling around our bath.

So I need the take off the old tiles, I know there wont be much left of the existing plasterboard, so I obviously re- sheet it (I use MR plasterboard or can I use the bog standard stuff?)
Do I just cut the existing plasterboard to the top of bath and remove from the stud and install the fresh stuff then?

Can I just tile away then or do I need to do something else first to the walls?

Regarding adhesive I have a tub already it says its "showerproof" can I use that or do I need waterproof? Same question for the grout.

    Thanks

You can tile over the existing tiles provided they are in good nick. Can't remember the name of the compound, but it's essentially glue with grit mixed through it. Any tile shop will stock it.

You technically can tile over existing tiles but really you shouldnt.
By tiling over existing tiles your adding a lot of extra weight to existing wall/plasterboard and the special adhesive you need to use is expensive in comparison to the normal stuff.

OP, Yes just take off the old tiles and plasterboard. Put up new plasterboard. The bog standard stuff is fine.

Anti damp plasterboard isn't expensive just buy that it's a few euro more.

The extra weight is transferred down to the bottom tile which should be resting on something if you are tiling properly. No issue unless existing tiles are in bad repair. The bonder I'm thinking of is called blue Grit and costs 16.95 for 5l which will easily do an average sized bathroom.
