06 316 BMW no power and not starting

    a friends 06 316 1.6 petrol BMW has no power on the dash after inserting the key. and wont start .
    The car was left for a week over christmas without being touched.
    He got a mechanic to take a quick look at it and was told the power on the key is ok and that the key is communicating with the car.
    Fuses look OK . Battery is good too
    The car is stranded in the drive and might be a while before his mechanic can get back to him.
    Anything he should look at or for.

    Try jumping the car and take it for a 30 min spin to recharge the battery.

    He has already tried jumping the car but still has no power in the dash

    So car started and ran when jumping it? But there are no lights on the dash?
    If car now starts but lights aren't working there could be a fuse issue, see Alan's video above.

    No sorry.
    Car has no power in the dash and still isn't starting.
    The whole thing is as dead as a doorknob.
    Even with a jump. No noises or clicking

    The mech probably did this, but the donor battery sometime needs to be connected to the dead battery for quite some time before you try to jump the car.

    Can you try again, leave it connected to the dead battery for 10 mins (don't start the dead car for 10 mins).
    Also make sure the cables are connected correctly (there are vids on youtube)
    The donor car can be on or off as you please (the dead battery should not drain the donor battery enough to cause problems).
