Hi. Getting this message last week with PUBG and 7 Days To Die. Never encountered this before.

    Anyone know how to fix?

    Steam support might help:

    https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithSteamIssue/?issueid=707

Go through the general troubleshooting. reinstalling steam is the 2nd option and might fix your problem

Do games outside of Steam crash? These errors suggest either a memory or hard disk issue so far.

Don’t play much outside of steam. But funny you should mention it I just tried BF4 & getting similar message...I’ve loads of space on HD though.

The files are appearing as corrupted, so they're either damaged on the hard disk or getting damaged loading them into memory. Try running scandisk on the drive to begin with.

    Did Scandisk report errors?

Problem fixed temporarily is what you mean. More corruption will happen in future.

Be ready for disk to suddenly die - one day your computer will not boot. Backup your data now and migrate os.

    Yes. And repaired them.

Sh1t!! I’ve Windows on SSD which is the C Drive. Steam (games) is on the D drive (1TB HDD). The repair & fix was to the D drive. Is this a hardware problem with HDD.

It does sound like time to start backing things up.

There should be a full scandisk.log file produced. Show us the content of this, we may be able to tell more.

That reports no errors though. It has a later timestamp then your post when you said it fixed something. Is that log from a later run?

Yes. attached is a chkdsk log following your advice to scan disk.

That matches what was seen before. It seems to have been limited to one subfolder of Steam, which would mean one game, PUBG at a guess from the names. Did you have a PUBG crash preceding this?

    Yes.
But the crashing is a new development since last week.
I only really play PUBG, but problem seems to have migrated to Origin & GOG.
It’s working ok so far since your fix. But a new HDD is probably where I’ll have to go if problem persists.

Is it an old disk at least? It does sound like you should be keeping a close eye on it, with a good chance of having to replace it.

The system I built from new, it’s all 2 years old. HDD is Seagate barracuda. 1TB

It might be worth downloading the latest Seagate SeaTools to check the health of the drive.

Either the drive is corrupting sectors, or you had power outages or something else to disrupt normal operation.

Yup, do this. It's most likely still in warranty, and they usually want the output from their own tools for an RMA.

Probably on wrong forum. I’ve changed out HDD. When I boot it up “reboot or select proper device comes up”.
OS is on the c drive SSD.
I changed the order in bios to boot from SSD
When I reconnect old HDD then It only boots up. Should I uninstall HDD before physically removing and replacing it. Any ideas?

Sounds like windows is on the hdd not the ssd. Double check everything.

Or could be the Windows Boot Manager is on the HD, but Windows itself is on the SDD.
