I dosed all the cows with the above exactly 2 weeks ago today. It says on the bottle that all cows must be vaccinated a minimum of 3 weeks before they calve for the vaccine to be successful.

I had a heifer calved this morning ie she has been vaccinated for 2 weeks only. Will the vaccine have been any benefit to her calf

Some. As she's the first to calve the environment should be at it's best so fingers crossed.

No vaccine is 100%, that's just the way nature works. The leaflet that comes with it will nearly always explain some of the reasons this is so.... individual variation, recipients need to be healthy etc.

Vaccines will provide immunity to just the versions of the bug that it's produced against. For example, a vaccine against Bluetongue serotype 8 will not protect against serotype 6. There may be a small boost of the animals immunity but not enough overlap of similarity in the serotypes for one vaccine to cover both.
So if the strain of the target bug is different then protection is reduced or absent... think of the Flu vaccine.

The other issue with this vaccine is ..... you're not vaccinating the animal you need to protect. You are vaccinating his mother to produce better colostrum and then hoping it will get that protection in the colostrum. Which means it's open to all the problems normally encountered in making sure a calf gets enough colostrum.... cows leaking colostrum before calving, cows suckling other cows, aggressive mothers, bad udder conformation, poor feeders etc.

Many cynics would say that if you spent as much effort getting normal colostrum into a calf as you do with the expensive, improved colostrum, then you wouldn't have the problem in the first instance!

By improving the overall resistance of the bunch of calves, some that would have got the scour won't get it, and those that do won't be as badly affected and will be easier cured. Overall most who use it are happy with the results.

Just bear in mind it isn't meant to prevent Cryptosporidium or Salmonella.
