This was on the surface a well researched article

However, the author is unfortunately perpetuating one significant falsehood in their statement: "Mounting issues facing the largest segment of sailing may lead to an overhaul of the Irish Cruiser Racing Association..."

Racing is indeed an important segment of sailing, but it is a far cry from ever having been or ever becoming the "largest segment of sailing". I am sorry, but just this kind of statement puts many people off sailing; people that would be potential crew material.

sorry, but i was not allowed to post the link

Racing is the largest organised part of the sport. I've a has become a very easy coast south coat organisation. There's never been a nationals in the north and very fee if any travel down from the north. The big problem with Icra this year is very boats are likely to travel and a survey after last year said very very few class 0 1 & 2 would bother going to Galway. Plus the calanders been very crowded last few years with events spread over a good distance making it time consuming for delivery trips and organising crew

I have to disagree with that.
As far as ICRA are concerned, they are primarily a racing organisation. The 'Cruiser' part of the name is to do with the type of boat in question.

There are other organisations that focus on leisurely 'cruising' such as ICC, that said, the numbers and interest involved in racing would be far greater.

Can you elaborate on why you feel the way you do?, maybe we could help you explore other facets of the sport? :)
