I see from the Dacis Ireland website that their cheapest car is the new Sandero at €10,695.

The cheapest in the UK is also a Sandero at £5,995. Even with £ to € exchange rate, VRT and VAT (obviously they pay VAT in the UK) and the Irish car being the top spec Sandero, I cannot conceive how there is such a price difference.

    top spec Sandero

Is that the one with the AM/FM radio?

The specs are different, a fair comparison would be a UK Laureate model and an Irish signature, £8595 (€9,700) versus €12390

With the VAT difference, the €9970 becomes €9942, VRT would be €2k (17% of €12k) so that's €11,942 vs €12,390

Now, on the £5995 models, Dacia UK or the dealers are not making any money at all, to get to the price point. That's just essentially their marketing budget that gets people in the door.

I also think the the Dacia's priced at £5995 do not even have electric windows or body colored bumpers never mind mirrors or all the other kit people like in cars these days. So if you want a very basic spec car that's the car.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

If only Dacias were around back when we poor in the 80s everyone would be driving one :D

Correct. There's a fair jump price wise to a 'normal' spec one.

I remember seeing a duster in 1986 at the motor show in Birmingham.

Don’t know if they were readily available there or here though.
