    Do you reckon there's much algorithm based trading similar to high-frequency trading going on? Some of the exchanges offer public APIs, not sure how fast they are though.

    No, you cant program any algo to understand the behaviour in these markets. There is no historic data to work off and a lot of the swings up and down in price are not understood and cant be verified as the exchanges are private companies.
