Just looking for words of wisdom on this. :)

Strongly considering heading across the water to look at either of these next week. As flights are so cheap from Ryanair I plan on flying over to veiw, inspect/test drive myseld, put small deposit down if things initially check out and fly back home same day, get a proper inspection done and if all checks out ill fly back a week later and ferry it home.

    Focus

    Fiesta ST

The Focus is advertised as a 2009 but an MOT and DVLA check tells me that it was registered in December 2008. Assuming that it is an 2008, VRT would cost 660 and if got it for £2100 it would work out at just over €3k before factoring in an inspection, boat, flights and nct which would bring it to just under €3500. When home it would only cost me €570 a year to tax on Co2 rate.

The Focus also had its MOT today which showed the mileage as 112,600k, 2600 higher then advertised. Dunno what to make of this tbh as with it being advertised as a year newer. Should alarm bells ring here ?

The Fiesta ST costs just under €1100 VRT and is the same price as the Focus but is a year older meaning it would set me back €3450 before inspection, boat etc assuming I got it for £2100. As the reg is covered and I havent contacted the seller I can't do an MOT check yet but will in due course.

The ST's between 06 & 08 can range in price from £1300 - £5k with mileage playing a big part if you put the dreamers aside. A 2006 would also be €440 cheaper to VRT but id be only moving up year from my current car. Suppose this should mean that I should shop on condition and not age, especially giving the type of car it is.

I realise im shopping at the lower end of the spectrum for an import but neither of the above are generally available over hear and even comparing the Focus to 1.4 and 1.6 models over here im still saving a bit.

Anything else I need to consider or any wise words ?

The Focus isn't all that fast for being a 2.0

I know that yeah, but giving its lighter it wouldn't be that far off my Mondeo so its compromise that wouldnt bother me. And I really dont want a 1.6 tbh.

The Focus is more the sensible option space wise if the Fiesta doesnt do it for me.
