Dates of 1st category B driving licence

    Just looking at my own paper licence and my husband's plastic licence - the dates given for the issue of 1st category B licence are strange - mine suggests I didn't have that licence until I was 34, whereas I was driving 10 years before that, if not more. Similarly, my husband's suggests he wasn't issued his first category B licence until he was 39 whereas he was probably driving 20 years before that!

    The RSA page 'About Your Licence' has a broken link alas, so can't find any explanation.

    Anyone know?

    Might be something to do with the 1989 change to licensing. perhaps if you had you licence before 1989 and renewed it after 1989, the latter date may be given as the date of first issue.

    I got my B licence in the mid nineties and have renewed it twice for 10 years. Date of first issue is correct.

    Thanks BrianD3 - I wondered might it have something to do with records/official system changes etc - yes, we were both driving pre1989.
