Can a travel passed be used to get to Belfast or somewhere up north and get back the following day?

You'll have to pay for the return journey unless you have a ROI Senior Travel Pass. The application form is available in your local DPS office (OAPs only).

Sorry but not true. I have a ftp and often stay in Belfast overnight. I fill in a warrent at Connolly and obtain a one way ticket to Belfast. On my return from Belfast I do the same at Belfast station and return to Connolly.

Remember though that as far as DSP are concerned you are leaving the state and this might mean informing DSP that you will be out of state for the night.

Was thinking of making a trip to Derry using the FreeTP and staying over in Derry a night or two.
Can I get a ticket in Dublin that will carry me through to Derry and getting back from Derry to Dublin?

Normally you can, I'm not sure what the situation is with a FTP.

You can go by bus direct to Derry from Bus Aras. Ask for a one way ticket in Dublin and in Derry do the same. No travel warrent needed.
