    So, 10YO Beko fridge.

About month ago it stopped, thought it was fuse at time, replaced and fridge worked away.

Some food spoiled again today and fridge not working again.

Took time to verify fuse this time and it’s ok.
Compressor warm but not hot, but I don’t know how long it’s stopped.

It restarted and ran again for a while and stopped again.

I suspected thermostat was gone causing the compressor to run hot and shut off. I took our thermostat and put tube in freezer and metered connections and it reacts as I would expect, opening contacts when cold and then when I take tube out of freezer the contacts close again.

Reinstalled thermostat and the fridge is running again.

Anything else I should check ??

How hot/warm should compressor actually get, it’s warm like a radiator but not hot so you can’t touch it.

EDIT : 20 minutes running with stat at 5 and the back wall of fridge is iced over showing there is plenty of gas and compression. I wound stat down and at 3 the compressor went off, wound it back to 5 but compressor didn’t restart straight off.
I metered the stat live, when it closes and sends power to the compressor it doesn’t start straight away, it could be a few minutes before it starts.

Can anyone say if this is normal??
I would have expected the compressor to start straight away when power is sent down from the thermostat??

Could be a relay on compressor

for a start with a compressor running and changing the stat position from run to off and back to a run position again quickly you wont do the compressor or elecs any favours, the gas needs to balance out and solid state elecs need a cool off period. getting back to your problem you don't state whether its a larder or has an ice box. assuming its a larder if it is situated in a cold room it may be reacting to surround temps if they are in the region of +2 or 3 degrees. Seeing as you have removed and refitted stat already join the contacts for run together and let it run for an hour or so, if there is no problem with with running assuming the mains/socket is ok I would say change the stat and make sure the end of the capillary is where it is clamped
