Happy New year all...what are people's thoughts on the whole beef market goin into 2018..is it possible for the factories to stop pulling prices for the first 1/4 of the year with supplies being tight (or so were being told)..we recently got out of sucklers and have got into finishing steers and heifers..contential steers and Hereford and Angus heifers..what would people's expectations be on a good margin come June/July.. . None of them cost €1000. And will be 30 mts come July.. .only at this finishing game 3 years....

It will all depend on what weight they are at slaughter. Getting cattle to grass early is the key. Last year AA bullocks weighing 340(about 650kgs LW) at slaughter came into about 1400 euro in July. Hopefully the price will be similar this year. You real profit is the difference in cost replacing them.

What's the difference between an AA heifer that is 24 months and 24months plus? Just going cards now. Quality assured. Thanks

No difference until she is over 30 months. If she grades right in the factory You can get 12cent a kg extra for her.

Word has it factories are anxious for cattle and may not get all they want due to very high kills in December.
