Which beach do you think is the jewel in the Irish crown?

I like Dogs' Bay and the White Strand in Connemara and Portnoo in Donegal.

Did the hotel ever reopen down there?

Probably is the best beach in the country..

Doonshean beach, near Dingle. There's a little waterfall trickles on to the beach off a cliff, you can dam a little pool under it :-)
Lovely for swimming and you may see dolphins. Superb.

Strandhill and all around Sligo. Lots of quiet beaches, if you take the time to look.

Won't be any golf course or sand dunes left if something's not done to protect them! In my opinion it's a vital emergency work that needs to be done asap.

Nobody mentioned Inch yet? Stunning beach, if we had the weather Inch would be every bit as stunning as any of the beaches I have been on - Thailand, South Africa to name but 2 countries.

Derrynane has to be my favourite. My family on my Mother's side own a derelict cottage there. Shame no one looked after it and it's now derelict.

The water is always so blue. I like Inch too for the dunes. Nice to walk as it's so long. Plus it's the closest beach to where I'm from so spent a lot of time there.

That small beach on Inisheer is nice too. Would love to go there on a nice day!

    Derrynane photos I took:

another vote for Keem beach on Achill.

Wexford has great beaches like Old Bawn, which is not as busy as some of the others and has a great cliff walk leading down to it.

I have a neighbour who grew up in Portsalon, Donegal. She told me that when she was a child, (in the 1960s) Portsalon beach was voted the second best beach in the world.

Donegal is absolutely spoilt for choice with beaches.

Tramore, Downings- taking the boardwalk down to the beach. Fabulous.

Lucky Shell over at Ards Friary, pictures will not do it justice. Has every type of scenery you want and is off the beaten track so is quiet.

Marblehill with a coffee at The Shack after, heaven.

    The Murder Hole in Downings.

To name but a few but Lucky Shell is my favourite.

It’s been mentioned already but Dog’s Bay in Galway looks like a beach from the Caribbean. I’ve never seen such turquoise water anywhere else in Ireland.

Was in dogs bay last year... fantastic beach.
Another one is the far side of inisboffin.

    Crystal clear blue waters.

Only the wind and the birds for company when I was there.
