Is it just me or do others think the same...?,?. People on facebook wishing others a happy New year and you see them couple of days later bitching the back of each other when they go back to their un happy lifes...Do they really think by wishing each other a happy New year that it's going to make their life any better than the year before.!! Feck me like. What is there to be gained from it? Do People think by drinking themselves stupid and singing happy New year everything is going to fall into place for them.? Or am i just a new years gringe?

I hope you are not a gringe. Look up the definition on the Urban Dictionary.

    I cant stand it either
    The ultimate celebration of nothingness!
Its a change in date and it happens every 24 hours....and the date/time of which a new 365 day cycle is considered to "Start" is utterly arbitrary....'koff with it!

    Just you, I'd say.

It's very normal to wish someone happy new year.

    Deal with issues.

Genuinely hope you have a happy year ahead.

    Facebook:
*look at me* 2017 been such a sh*t year, everything went wrong, everything...thanks to all me mates (you know who you are honeys) for all your love and support...you guys are the best ever. Here's to a much better 2018 xxxxx *keeps refreshing page to see how many likes and comments they get. Gets upset when the realise nobody gives a sh*t and posts a new status the next day about what snakes some of their 'friends' are*

    Keep away from that sh*te.

Not into the whole NYE thing myself...find most of it very fake...perhaps thats the introvert in me, I'm an anti-social bitch any day of the year. :)

Think it is all a load of rubbish myself. When most people wish others a happy new year their words are empty.

Yeah it's all rubbish. Just like xmas.

It's a chance for people to draw a line under the past year and inject a bit of hope and positivity into the coming year.

Sure what harm does it do if people have a bit of positivity in their lives?

But sure you can do that any day. If you wait for the new year to right your wrongs. You Be leaving a lot of things under the carpet every year. Just my opinion. I'd consider myself a fairly positive person and a realist. I just find it all very fake and could never get into it. When I was teenager alright I loved it because you would get the shift at 12 bells every year but before that and now I can't stand it ha.

No, I don't think the same but then again, I don't experience or take part in the bitching you describe. How many of the people in your life are bitching like this? I can't wrap my head around that element of your post - how do you even hear this bitching going on? I'm filled with curiosity now as to who is doing this bitching and who they're sharing the meanness with and who they're bitching about.

I can see how pointless a few words on a screen (or in person) can be because they're not going to make a person with an unhappy life suddenly find a way to make their life happy but I wouldn't get upset about it. Seems to me that it's a bit like being upset when people say "good morning" or "good evening" if you're having a bad morning or know you're about to have a bad evening. Or telling someone to "have a nice day" or "enjoy your meal" or..........oh, god.....the more I think about this, the worse it gets, "good luck", "enjoy your holiday"....even "happy birthday" feels tainted now.

I'm gonna stop now, OP, and genuinely wish you a happy new year. I promise not to bitch about you afterwards. You have my word....up to you to decide if you can believe me :)

1 minute to go and the signal on RTÉ One is fecked up. Probably can't be helped with the wind blowing the cameras arseways.

Happy New Year to you all. :)

Just think people have this superficial thing about it to make them feel better when the only way things are going to change for them is if they make physical change themselves. That's all I'm saying. I wish and hope everyone reading this has a good year but if you want it to be good you better make it good.

A good qoute I seen today

Anybody know for how long the changing year has held the significance it holds now? I'm guessing it's a recent enough occurrence.

    I have one complaint.

There were some phenomenal arses on view down the local at about 7pm on new years eve.

It would definitely make for a happier new year if the very lovely women of Ireland showed off their arses like that more throughout the year
