As we reach the halfway point of the season (or possibly just past it) I said I'd have a go at picking a team of the season up to now.

To be honest I couldn't believe how easy I found it to pick this team, didn't have any tough decisions to make at all really.

    I've gone with a 4-2-3-1.

    De Gea

    Azpiculetta Tarkowski Otamendi Alonso

    Fernandinho Silva

    Salah De Bruyne Sterling

    Kane

Genuinely don't think too many arguments can be made with that team. Maybe Mee ahead of Tarkowski but that's a marginal call. I think Stones probably would be ahead of both if he had managed to stay fit but he has missed too much to be considered. 5 City players but I think that's reasonable given how dominant they've been.

    Any thoughts on that?

I would swap that keeper who can't get out of his box

Amusingly Salah did not make Paul Merson's team:

    https://twitter.com/SkyBet/status/943424155894108161

    Mine would be:

    De Gea

    Walker
    Azpilicueta
    Otamendi
    Delph

    Fernandinho

    Salah
    De Bruyne
    D. Silva
    Sterling--

    Kane

    Ederson

Azil, Christenson, Otamendi, Delph (if you'd told me last year I'd be placing him here...)
    Fernandinho
    De Bruyne, Silva
    Sterling Salah
    Kane

    De Gea
    Walker
    Otamendi
    Azpilicueta
    Alonso
    Fernandinho
    De Bruyne
    Sterling
    Hazard
    Salah
Kane (honourable mention to Firmino who I think is closer so far this season than some may be willing to admit)

    Ederson

    Walker
    Azpilicueta
    Otamendi
    Alonso

    Fernandinho
    De Bruyne
    Silva

    Salah
    Kane
    Hazard

    Sterling very unlucky.

    De Gea

    Walker Otamendi Maguire Bertrand

    Salah De Bruyne Fernandinho Sterling

    Kane Firminio

I know people may question Firmino but he has been spectacularly good for Liverpool and is probably our most important player.

Not too sure on left back, Bertrand has been good whenever I seen him.

    I'd go

    De Gea

    Azpilicueta
    Tarkowski
    Otamendi
    Young

    Matic
    De Bruyne
    Silva

    Salah
    Kane
    Sterling

Only ones I'm unsure of is Matic, could easily put Kante in there too.

Young shouldn't be there, Bertrand and Alonso have been better. Fernandiho and Kante are having better seasons than Matic so he's out too.

Tarkowski definitely deserves a spot, he's been brilliant this season.

What's with all the Azpilicueta at RB inclusions? He hasn't played there at all, as far as I know.

I think Bertrand hasn't been great at all, and Alonso is only good going forward, if that was a 3-5-2, he's fine, but he's a poor enough defender. You'd not want him starting as a LB imo. Young has been one of United's best players this year imo, better than Delph has for City in the same spot imo, who's the next closest challenger.

As for Matic, I think it's 50/50 on whehter you put Kante in or him. Both are better than Fernandinho imo

Fernandinho has been having a great season, certainly better than Matic and Kante. Your team is the only one he hasn't made. Been key for City this season.

You've got 2 players from the team 12 (could be 15 in a few hours) points ahead of everyone else there Mick, and 5 Manchester United players.

Is this a joke team? :D

Fanboy XI ! I'm guessing City haven't been watched much by him.

I'd have to have at least 5 City players in the first XI.

I would have said it was someone taking the p***, or perhaps fishing for bites. But looking at the poster, I honestly think he believes that that XI is the team of the season.

Classic mick never change. Lingard 9 starts and pogba 12 starts out of 22 games. Even Christensen has only started just over half the Chelsea games.

    Nah it's a slightly bias team :)
But still all positions have arguments to be made
It's amazing how worked up some lads get over it though

Why take issue with me? Relax lad!

Plenty of reasons to be argued. Tough tities if it upsets you.

You do realize the stats comparisons for those players are pretty close

Pogba has definitely had more haircuts than KDB alright.

Who's taking issues? Read my post again. I said you honestly believed that the XI you named is the team of the year. No problem there, as far as I am concerned. You're the one who needs to relax!

Only one less assist too in less minutes

Not a "best XI" because as can be seen already there are fairly obvious answers so instead I went for more of a "suprise package XI" of players who have performed far above any expectations!
