    Hi,
My dad got an insurance renewal letter from FBD for a 1996 Pajero 4x4 which is a commercial vehicle. They have requested a "fitness certificate" to be completed before the insurance is renewed at the end of Jan. I assume this is due to the age of the vehicle but to me it all looks like details covered by the DOE:
Brakes, Steering, Suspension, Tyres, Electrical, Bodywork, Defects, General condition.
It's just a line after each asking for confirmation they are in ok condition, what the thread depth on tyres is for example.
Do all insurance companies ask for this does anybody know?

Oh sorry I forgot to say, it has to be completed by a dealer. He's thinking of changing insurance companies to avoid the hassle but if it's a standard thing there's not much point. Couldn't find much on it when I googled, aside from a test in India!

This is just insurance companies taking the pi55, the vehicle either has a current DOE or it doesn't. I don't see the need for some secondary bull**** form from a shower like FBD. The dealer will charge for this and rightly so, but why should your father have to go through this when the state issues a DOE cert for this very reason?
I'd ask them exactly what this proves and why it is in addition to the official test.
Contact them on facebook and see what they have to say or if they slink back under the log.

Thanks for the response. I contacted them on facebook but they said they couldn't discuss over facebook so I rang this morning. I said before my Dad leaves  FBD he just wanted to check why there is a request for a vehicle fitness cert. The girl checked with her supervisor and said as long as there's a DOE that this can be ignored. I was in a hurry so didn't questions why on earth it was sent out in the first place! When you google "FBD Vehicle Fitness Certificate" This thread is about the only thing that shows up when you google the issue so hopefully it will be of use to somebody else in the future!
