    Hello,

Looking at a cheap car at the minute with roughly 170,000 on the clock. Seller seems to think it's in km, but I'm unsure. Can anyone confirm this? It's an 02.

Just passed the nct and has 2 months tax. I average about 500 km a week, mostly motorway but not sure if this is the way to go at all. I just need something to fill a gap until I can afford something decent. Current car is giving me trouble and spotted this one. What do ye think? I know very little about cars.

    She's selling for 450.

If it's 02 it will be in miles.

The NCT disc should also confirm
    If I’m miles or km

From a quick flick through donedeal there seems to be some yaris and Micras going for around the 500 mark. I'd be more inclined to go with one of those.

    It'd be miles if it's 02.

Liberty gave me a reasonable enough quote.

I'd rather bring someone to look this over instead:

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/ford-focus-ford-focus-2004-1-4-new-nct-07-18/16972373

    NCT until next July.

Anyone have any idea roughly how much petrol a 1.1 would use doing 500km a week? I know it's difficult to tell but I'm basically driving the m50 and back 6 to 7 days a week. Nothing else really.

My 1.4 astra was costing me 60/70 euro a week. If I could get that down I'd be happy.

What speed would you be doing?

    I would guess you'd get 500 km for €55.

Following on from this I've decided to get a loan and maybe get something decent 3k is the target. Hoping for cheap tax and obviously something cheapish to run. Like I say before I'm doing 500km a week on mostly motorway.

I thought I found the right car, an 07 Corsa, 1.2 diesel with low mileage from a dealer in Dublin. I went to have a look and in fairness to him he suggested I have a rethink because I wouldnt be saving anything on fuel with that size engine and motorway driving. He suggested a 1.6 or 1.8 diesel or a 1.4 petrol. He said a Focus or Mondeo might be good.

Any opinions or input would be greatly appreciated, I don't really have anyone to bring along with a decent knowledge of cars which is what brought me to this dealer as he offers 3 months warranty and has pretty good reviews. And I know very little myself, I'm just hoping for something comfortable that won't give me loads of trouble for a few years. Cheers.

The dealer sounds nice, but he might just be looking to offload another car on you! Good reviews are a good sign. Try googling the garage name & “solocheck”, you’ll see how long they are in business. The longer they are in business the better (generally). You can pay a mechanic local to you or the garage a fee to come with you to look at a car too. This shouldn’t be any more than about €100. I would strongly recommend doing this for a car you a seriously considering.
