I'm in my late 30s and very overweight at 22 stone . My long term goal is to be a lean 13.5 stone . I'm 6ft tall by the way . My problem in the past has always been trying to be too strict and then ending up giving up after a few weeks and getting no where . All this stop starting as really hit my confidence and has me depressed . At my weight I would consider 3 stone in 3 months to be a very achievable goal. I'm even thinking I should aim higher because alot of weight lost will be from stored water . Would appreciate some advice

3 stone in 3 months is achievable. It won't be easy but it will be achievable.

However, the focus shouldn't really be on 3 months. It should be on putting in place a new way of viewing food/nutrition that makes the weight loss sustainable in the longer term and that won't see you bouncing back into old habits and putting weight back on down the line.

What did being strict involve previously? Getting to understand the reasons you gave up previously will help you go about it now differently and avoid the same pitfalls.

How about starting with a couch to 5K with a local park run or athletic club? Might only take you a month but will give you a supportive community to help you along and a social aspect which will help with keeping going. Get your fitness back and see what suits you after that. 5K, 10K Onto the bike Into the pool...

At 22 stone you could drop 3 stone in a few weeks .... but in reality it will just go straight back on.

80 diet 20 activity is where weight loss comes from. Sort out your diet and find an activity you enjoy ... Hill walking, running, cycling, badminton, powerlifting .... the two will go hand in hand ... the better your diet the better you will be at your activity and the better you get at the activity the more you will focus on your diet.

Don’t focus on a short term gain ... change your lifestyle

Good luck you will do it. As others say it’s nearly all about your intake, what you eat. The excercise helps but the main thing is your food.

I found “my fitness pal” app a great help. Log everything you eat and you can keep track Day by day if you are keeping under your calaroie goal for the day.

Keep posting your updates on this thread as well as it helps to keep the motivation going.
