Unemployment Assistance when foreign??

    Sorry,

Just wondering if anyone on here has any knowledge of the following, it would be very helpful.

I have been working part time since January as there is no/very little full time work In Ireland in my line of work. A few days ago I was offered an unpaid trial period of 2-4 weeks in the UK which if successful I would be in full time employment.

I today went in to my local social welfare office to enquire was it possible to still claim Unemployment Assistance while over there as I read it is possible while you are still in the EU and looking for a job, this fits my situation exactly.

I was told that I am not eligible as I am on Unemployment assistance and not Benefit since last January. I worked full time for 3 years prior to this so I'm not really sure why I don't have enough credits.

Does anyone know if this is correct. I was told that because I am leaving the country my case has been closed, even though I may be back in a few weeks if I am unsuccessful.

Thanks in advance for any help

I worked for 20 years before claiming unemployment and I only had 10 months unemployment assistance because that’s all you get. I only took 2 mths as I got a job

But the fact that I was wonrking part time all year, would that not mean I have sufficent credits built up? Or do you not get credits when you're part time?

Were you paying tax all year ? Because in your other post about welfare you seem to have only started work in August.

When you were claiming Jobseekers Benefit you could have transferred your Benefit to an EU country for 56 days.
You ran out of PRSI contributions and credits so you were put on Jobseekers Allowance.
You can’t transfer Allowance out of Ireland.
Your entitlement to Benefit is calculated using your PRSI contributions in the last tax year which is currently 2015.
Your SW office were correct in their advice to you .
