    Starts February 28th
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Looming Tower traces the rising threat of Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda in the late 1990s and how the rivalry between the FBI and CIA during that time may have inadvertently set the path for the tragedy of 9/11. The series follows members of the I-49 Squad in New York and Alec Station in Washington, D.C., the counter-terrorism divisions of the FBI and CIA, respectively, as they travel the world fighting for ownership of information while seemingly working toward the same goal – trying to prevent an imminent attack on U.S. soil.

The Looming Tower stars Jeff Daniels (John O’Neill), Tahar Rahim (Ali Soufan), Wrenn Schmidt (Diane Marsh), Bill Camp (Robert Chesney), Louis Cancelmi (Vince Stuart), Virginia Kull (Kathy Shaughnessy), Ella Rae Peck (Heather), Sullivan Jones (Floyd Bennet) with Michael Stuhlbarg (Richard Clarke) and Peter Sarsgaard (Martin Schmidt).

Hulu added the first three episodes today and it will then go weekly from next week.

This will supposedly be added to Amazon Prime Video today/tomorrow for those that have it.

First three episodes pretty good, they're leaving out quite a bit of detail (compared to the book) but it's worth a look.

I really want to watch this, but the jerky camera work is awful... its like it was filmed on a 1980s camcorder at times... have had to stop after 20 mins due to headache... tried viewing from 3 separate sources!

Really enjoyed the first two episodes of this. It reminds me of Homeland when it was actually good and not a soap opera. Jeff Daniels is excellent as always but the whole cast are a very impressive group of well known character actors.

It's a shame this sin't on Netflix as it deserves a big audience.

    This show is slow.

    Seriously, something needs to happen.

We've had the missile strike and the bombings, not sure what else you expect? Think the series is less about action and more about the interaction between the two agencies

Watched the first episode. Thought it was good. WTF is going on with O'Neill's personal life?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Up to date with it no and really enjoying it.

It is a sad indictment of the US security agencies thought.

It's hard to point to a single performance as standing out (based on 3 episodes), but I'm going with Bill Camp, so far.

I've been missing the subtitles, only had them on episode 7. You could see how drained John was when he had the briefcase incident in 6 and the poor young lad in Yemen. That was sad.

I wish I hadn't googled a few of the real people in this despite knowing what happens on the big scale (9/11) I didn't know what happened on the small scale where this story is leading.

Not sure I'm gone on this.
Cardboard cutout characters and that young Lebanese guy is a shocking actor

Some hard to believe stuff like the dude out of NYPD blue getting a warrant off the plane and goes alone to some dude's house. Similarly the Lebanese guy was right off the plane and was taken along on a raid on a terrorist cell!

Certainly lining up the dominos now...

    Sure is!
The Bush Administration is not coming across very well either... Especially Condoleezza Rice

As someone posted earlier... don't make the mistake of googling any of the characters in the series... as there are way too many (real life) spoilers out there!

The US intelligence agencies really are not looking good at all.

Seeing the Twin Towers near the end and knowing what will happen in next weeks final episode.

An excellent series from start to finish.

On a side does anyone else think Tahar Rahim looks like Aidan Gillen.

    He does in his hoop

That was good. Very deliberate in its structure, approach and how it gave the characters a moment, or three. From the initial shudder in John's office, people being mentally shredded to the man giving the money and speech to the widow. That line about Rumsfeld and Iraq. Christ.

The silence for the actual footage was appropriate, even now it's still hard to imagine the dust and working through must have felt like an enormous grave.

I'm on episode 5 off a download. Is there meant to be subtitles in the Arabic scenes or are we meant to work the context out ourselves?

The Arabic was subtitled in earlier episodes.

Varies on which episode you acquired. Subtitles were missing in around four episodes and present in the other six I think.

When you get to episode 10 make sure you get one with subtitles as there is an extended scene in Arabic which you will have no idea what is going on it and is also probably the best scene in the entire series.

I am surprised it has been given a good prime time slot

Just watching the first episode now on RTE. How did the FBI get a warrant to search a house in Nairobi???

There’s definitely a few questionable aspects of the show but all in all i found the first two episodes very enjoyable.

I would say yes. Quite gripping and being TV it takes liberties. Core of it is close enough to what is known about the agencies at that time. Jeff Daniels is great.

I went to start this today and my series link on sky messed up, it recorded episode 1, skipped 2 and 3, and has episode 4 set to record later tonight.

The rte player app on the sky box doesn't have it annoyingly, but the rte player on my phone does so I'll use that to catch up with the missing ones. So annoying when series link cocks up.

On my Saorview listings the first episode today is called just "Looming Tower" while the second is called "The Looming Tower".

Its the same on the Sky box. Just the way they have it for some reason.

Ah you could be on to something there. Episode 1 is listed as "The Looming Tower" and my series link picked that up, as well as Episode 4, so I bet there was a separate series link for "Looming Tower", as if it were seeing them as 2 different shows.

Good job RTE (even if it's not their fault it makes me feel better to have someone to blame!)

And because of that the series link didn't work. They always find a way to **** something up.

It had the first two so maybe it'll appear tomorrow at some stage.

Starts on BBC Two on Friday April 26th at 9:30pm.

Apparently there has been talk of a follow up series that would tell the story of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Does anyone have recordings of episodes 4 & 5 please?
