Watches stolen - Omega Speedmaster Moonphase and Tag Heuer Aquaracer Chronograph

Just a heads up (and warning) - got broken into today and a few items were taken.

Thankfully I had set up a security cam system inside my house and I was able to get back within 12 minutes of them breaking in but they still made off with two of my watches.

I'd be grateful if anyone sees either a:

Tag Aquaracer Chronograph (silver with white dial - day/date and 7750 movement)
    Like this:
    https://cdn.watchuwant.com/sites/default/files/watches/tag-heuer-aquaracer-day-date-chrono-refcaf2011-ss-silver-dial-brac-21680_3410.jpg

    or

Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonphase (4 sub-dial version) like this:
    https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/rjbroer/Fratello/SpeedyMoonphase1985-1.jpg

For sale at a suspiciously low price - if you could PM me that'll be great. I'll see if I can dig up serial numbers for the two but the speedmaster moonphase in particular should be pretty unique in terms of being spotted...

The Tag I bought off bogmanfan here on the watch forum and all... F**k those burglars.

Thankfully the camera caught them soon enough so I was able to call the Guards and we only gave them a 10 minute head start to go through my house.

They didn't like my Russian or Chinese watches - I'm not sure if I should be pleased or insulted :D

Oh and for anyone interested here's the type of security camera I got:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B074DQ1GY4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You get a notification picture sent directly to your phone whenever it notices movement, you can get cheaper ones but they don't come with an infrared sensor that the one above has. I even have a picture of the lout entering the door - unfortunately he was wearing gloves and the forensics guy couldn't get anything.

Keep safe over Christmas guys and maybe reconsider if "good" watches go into the watch box at all or are hidden.

Sorry for the rambling post - wanted to vent a little after finding someone has gone through all your private things - wife is obviously distraught (and we had the inlaws arrive from overseas just a few days ago) but thankfully most of her jewellery survived (like I said - the camera was really helpful I think). I'm about to buy 3 more to put around the house and install in my parents' house too.

Sorry to hear that. Pure scumbags.

Luckily as you said you got back quick enough with that camera (something I will look into) and they weren’t that long in house.

I hope you can get some clear snap shots of them to pass onto Garda?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

Unfortunately the only snap the camera managed to take before it got unplugged just captured the guy half entering the room. Could see that he was wearing gloves too so that helped the police in determining they weren't going to get prints.

Apparently we're the 3rd house on the street that's been burgled or an attempt has been made. Another person wasn't so lucky and lost everything of value in the house. With us it was just a 10 minute window of opportunity.

If you don’t mind, what part of Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

D18 so pretty well rounded area (and in fact our neighbours also called the guards so they were there almost as soon as we were). I guess the scumbags travel to outside their "locale" to engage in their nefarious activities. The car they used was apparently found in tallaght - not sure if any goods were found.

Feel sick for you especially just before Xmas.

Any recent activity that they could have researched you on? Similar to the adverts robbery recently or some posts online of your watches? Might be worth having a think if you exposed yourself somehow.

On a separate note what colour air max and Pringle jumper was he wearing......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

Oh and actually add a gold filled Waltham pocket watch full hunter to that list of stolen goods - engraved to some aviation club gentleman.

@Tigger - yeah the car would be an Audi coupe so that would stand out. On the other hand the neighbours a few streets down would have a pretty non-descript car and still got completely ransacked from the sounds of it.

Success - wife found a Tiffany piece that she thought was stolen but was misplaced by herself :D - silver lining to the cloud :D

Maybe I can convince her of a need to rebuild the watch collection now? :P ...too soon methinks!

Apparently they were in santa hats! It's a bit of a mess getting sorted with insurance and whatnot right before Christmas but funnily it seems that our house insurance also gives us a "bonus" contents insurance in December for Christmas...might be useful in this case.

Anyway, it's late enough and we've finally cleared the house up somewhat. Gonna head to bed now - have a good and safe one all.

All the stuff can be replaced. At least you're both going to bed safe tonight. All the best.

Will certainly keep an eye out on adverts etc.. you can set alerts on adverts for a particular item and it will notify you whenever they are listed. Really sorry to hear about crap like this. We all work hard for the things we have and these cnuts feel they can help themselves  sincerely hope karma catches up with them.

Utterly worthless scum. Hope they and their ilk die screaming.:mad: Good to hear you and yours are safe.

Bad time of year for these bastards. Not just in the run up to Christmas, but over the holiday period until after New Years day. They know people will have presents and they know many people will be away from home. These rats will will even target houses on Christmas Day particularly the morning. People visiting relatives or even doing their one day a year going to mass, or elderly folks who would be most likely to go to mass and be gone for over an hour. I know a chap whose house was hit Christmas morning when they went to mass(his wife is a bit religious). The scum took the TV, computers, all the kids presents and destroyed the house, kicked over the tree, even ransacked the fridge. Animals. They also hit three of the neighbours at the same time.

TBH it's why I never bought a watch box or roll. I think of them as the burglar's friend. Putting all your watches in one place makes it too easy for the scum. Ditto for keeping any valuables in your bedroom. It's the first room the scum rifle through as they know it's where people feel safest and feel their valuables are safest there too.

I like the camera idea though. Seems it prevented them really going to town on your home. I've set up a search on adverts and google so I'll keep an eye out FWIW.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

So sorry to hear this thirdfox, the insecurity of it afterwards is the worst, especially for the wife. Will keep an eye out online. Maybe talk to a few pawnbrokers in town as well, they won't want to be caught with stolen goods either. At least nobody was hurt. I hope you get them back.

Op have you an alarm on the house.

If not its a must and make sure its a gsm enabled one so it will text you if its set off.

I would also suggest getting proper CCTV fitted and good pir motion sensor lights all around.

Devastating! Do you still have the papers? Are the watches marked with serial numbers?

Yeah - have set up alerts on donedeal, adverts and ebay now. Will ring the pawnbrokers shortly.

Unfortunately they have been able to take the Omega's papers - I did find the serial number for the Omega however:
    77211532
That's the one that really gets me - wholly aside from material value it had plenty of sentimental value to me as well.

@Wibbs - I think you're right about keeping the nice watches in the box - well at least it's good to know they don't consider the Soviet/Russian/Chinese watches to be worth stealing (though who knows if they had more time to themselves) - things like iPads etc weren't even touched.

Randomly they did take 2 waterford crystal seahorse candlesticks :/ - we surmised that it might be a Christmas present for someone I guess!

Sorry to hear, will keep an eye out for them.

I keep a fake 'valuable' watch out and prominently visible in the hopes that a burglar in a rush will just think "that'll do" and scarper without ransacking the place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

They also took all our Weir and Sons (empty) boxes - I guess they needed boxes to pass items off as genuine or even put other stolen goods in the Weirs boxes for sale.

Just spent the afternoon installing a new lock on the door but that's taking action after the horse has bolted.

Called one pawn shop and will get around to the others tomorrow. At least we have a list of everything taken now - 3 watches from my side and a bunch of jewellery from wife's side.

Have a good look at your front door as that is how they got in. We had a standard PVC door that was opened with a screwdriver and then just kicked in another time, both times we were in the house and the Alarm went off. They took the car the first car as the keys were handy in the hall but we had a dummy key in its place the second time and that was taken.
Both times I was face to face with them and they just wanted to get away, the Alarm going off helps no doubt but the main message from me is to get a Front Door that can't be so easily by-passed.
Once they are inside anything is liable to happen but stop that and it means a lot, especially to women and kids. These scum are not very intelligent and will look for the easiest way in everything, the path of least resistance if you like, and the harder you make it for they the more likely they are to go elsewhere.

Putting in a dummy key or facing them is not really the path of least resistance though, is it?

If they want my car, they can break in, grab the keys from my hall table and be gone with the car hopefully without anyone in the house even waking up. Insurance will cover it.

Actually I've seen something on Chrono24 that seems just a little suspicious to me - would anyone be able to help with a friendly enquiry via Chrono24's "contact seller" messaging system?

Just some innocuous questions about watch details but most importantly the serial number (I contacted him - new private seller since 2017) with the pretense of wanting to find out the serial number to check the date of the watch.

If anyone else could get in touch with him I'd really appreciate it - let me know via PM and I'll send on the chrono24 page.

Apparently he's based in Dublin 18 also - but it could all be a coincidence I know.

This has no box or papers either.

False alarm it seems I saw that he had posted the cert on a separate photo but had been holding out hope that the watch case's serial wouldn't match.

(Un)fortunately it seems like my watch is yet to be found (fortunate that the guy is a genuine seller it seems).
