Charger Question

Earlier this week i pulled up to the SCP in Clonakilty.
The ecars app was saying "out of contact" as usual so I was quite pleased when I saw an egolf plugged in on one side with the other side free.
I offered my card to the reader but the port didn't open, the screen said "Data check not OK" I also noticed the screen on the golf side said "charging stopped"
I pulled away from the charger and parked in a standard parking place in the carpark.
When I came back a couple of hours later there was a PHEV plugged in on the same side where I had been. On closer inspection the screen was saying "charging stopped" which could imply that both drivers just plugged in their cars and walked away, not realising that they weren't actually charging, but my question is -
What was I doing wrong that the charger port wouldn't open for me???
I drove back to Bandon and pulled up to the SCP there and had no issue, using the same card.

When out of contact you can sometimes have better luck when your card was used on that charge point before.

I had a similar issue with one SCP where it wouldn't open the 2nd port when another car was on the 1st port. I think there is a software bug in some of them.

In my case I parked nearby and when I came back that car had gone and another had plugged in and was happily charging so the charger was fine.

I think when a car is plugged in and another card is swiped it gets confused about what its supposed to do, which is to open the 2nd port and leave the first one continue.

It may also be that when the charger is 'out of contact' it cant get updated information on cards that are allowed to use it? Maybe it has some internal database that needs updating?

Maybe. The one I was using was not tagged as out of contact though and two other cars were able to charge on it before and after I arrived. I think it behaves differently when someone tries to connect a second car and it only happens on some of the SCP's.

It was the only time I failed to start a charge on the eCars network.
