Clearance cert for HAP

    Hi,

Is it possible to get a clearance cert if you are behind on your preliminary tax payment ?

Ex: Fully paid for 2016, but only a small contribution paid towards 2017 return due to a lack of funds.

Does this mean I can't get a clearance cert until I've paid a larger amount of the Preliminary return.

Asking because I may be getting HAP tenants in the new year.

Just apply for it. If you're paid 2016 fully you shouldn't have a problem.

Preliminary Tax is your best estimate of your 2017 liability, Revenue have no way of confirming that figure until you submit your 2017 return, however, if you feel you underpaid, I would advise you to make "top up" payments during the year.
