Hi I have a question I was working in local authority on a temp contract it ended 3 months ago. I have now just secured a permanent position, same post, same grade different county council and they are trying to start me at the bottom of scale when I should be on the 3rd or even 4th increment, can this be right?

I briefly worked for a council and when I asked if my previous public-sector experience would be recognised via-á-vis increments, they said they weren't sure because it was "broken service". Experience is experience, so I don't understand why it would have to be end-to-end for increments to count.

I'd probably try not to make too much of a fuss as you are still on probation, but certainly talk to the union and perhaps they could intercede with HR to ensure all previous service is recognised without explicitly representing you.
