Aunt is looking to change cars, lives in Galway in aan apartment doesnt drive around town much but does go out to family around rural Galway in different directions longest trip one way about 45km no charge point at location there bar 3 pin plug may be . Shortest trip prob 15km.
Does 10k a year, uses bus and or train for travel to Dublin/ cork mostly with free travel so longer trips not really an issue. Budget would be 10k max. Considering ev but no charge point and parking spot is other side of car park. Hybrid be worth it.? Main criteria economical and reliable, carries grand nieces and nephews the odd time also.

Unless it is possible to charge at home, an EV for ~€10k isn't going to cut it. At the least, local charging is needed. The 45km trip is easily doable in a 24kWh Leaf and with a top up using the granny charger, the return trip would be easy even in this cold weather.

I wouldn't recommend an EV in these circumstances without a home charge point. Even a 3 pin socket would do the job if there was one on the other side of the car park.

Not sure what the case is with the apartments, owners kind of have a committee that run it. Installing a charge point would have to be included in the 10k budget two if it was possible near her space . Was thinking a prius but is the mpg much better after when not around town driving?

I''m in the same boat as the OP. Moving to an apartment and going to have to get a chargepoint installed (assigned overground parking space next to the front door where the meters are so I don't see this being an issue?? )

The apt management company owned the walls etc of the apt when it comes to fitting kit such as external sockets and sat dishes etc.

You need to read the mngt agreement that comes with the lease.

I am in the same boat and it seems the landlord owns the windows so if the mango company refuses to allow me drill the wall and fit a socket I am exploring drilling a hole through the bottom corner of the window frame for the external socket.
Failing that I will run a cable out the wall vent.
