Dog peed and didn’t realise

    Hi guys,
I was lying on couch with my younger dog (9 years old) and noticed she had leaked/peed and was lying in it and didn’t realise.
This happened 2 weeks ago too.
My oldest dog was incontinent for her last few years but I can’t remember exactly how it started.
Is this the start of it or could it be that she was asleep and didn’t realise?

We have had a few other toilet troubles (pee) with her maybe 2 months ago but they stopped. I don’t think she has urinary infection. She has had them over the years and she always needs to go to the toilet and her pee stinks. This is not the case now.
    Thanks a million

Get a sample and head to the vet to be sure. Same thing happened to Bailey weeing himself years ago and it was crystals as his wee was too alkaline after he'd been having some different food mixed in- back to the old food and all good. Vet showed me the crystals under the microscope - very impressive lol

Oh disaster she is Defo leaking. :(
It’s like what old dog used to be like. I came back down and everywhere she had sat was damp. Cushions galore now in a queue for the washing machine.
Dogs are being made sleep downstairs tonight.....fingers crossed all goes well. Not risking my superking size bed!!!
Will bring her to vets in the morning.

My mum's dog started doing this and it was basically a kind of pelvic floor weakness. She brought her to the vets and they tested her blood and urine and there was nothing sinister, but they did say the dog could also stand to lose a bit of weight. She's on one tablet a day now, and has lost a bit of weight and it is much improved. It still happens the odd time, but not like before when it was a daily event.

Our old dog was on medication for maybe 3 years can’t remember how long exactly. Wonderful stuff (propalin). Hoping it will work because I can’t have her leaking. Her coat is soaking. I am trying to clean her with waterwipes!!

This happened to my dog recently and discovered it was problems with her kidney's so I would bring her to the vet as soon as you can to be sure.

Initially, the vet thought it may have been her sphincter muscle which weakens as they get older....especially common in female, spayed middle aged dogs. So because she was so relaxed when she was asleep, the muscle would relax and she would wet herself. It could very well be that given she is 9 now.

My now 11 year old Cavalier started leaking the odd time about 2 years. She is on Propalin (0.2ml twice a day) and she hasn't had any accidents since. Apparently it's a common thing with older neutered females.

Hopefully it is nothing serious, bring her to the vet anyway. Best of luck.

That propalin is great stuff. I have her booked into vets. She seems to be dry today but slept on vet bed so hard to know how last night went!!!

You'll most likely be asked to get a urine sample, which is absolutely hilarious altogether! My mum had to bring the dog out to the green area opposite the vets, and the vet gave her a little bowl. So she had to follow the dog around, and when the dog went to squat, Mum had to ninja the bowl in underneath the dog to catch the wee. :pac:

    *note to self*
If you ever find yourself in Jimf's house, always, ALWAYS politely turn down his offer of a fry-up :D

Himself wondered why I bought a new soup ladle when we were in IKEA last year. I muttered that the old one was "missing" only for him to find it in the dogs utility room and then I had to come clean and tell him it was what I used to collect "samples" :D:D

Just to update we have started her on propalin. She leaked again very badly on Wednesday night :(
    She doesn’t have a uti.
Hoping the propalin will keep her dry as realistically don’t know how long I can
Go around constantly cleaning. I nearly put a pull up on her the other night!!!!!!!

Just to update....propalin seems to be working it’s magic and she is dry!! Vet said she will need to stay on it now so fingers crossed it keeps working ;)

I spoke too soon  she started leaking again randomly. After blood work, urinary analysis (and a big vet big) we are starting her on a combo of incurrin and propalin. Fingers crossed it will work ;)
