    Hi guys.
So I successifully claimed 4 months of tax back after posting the log book and tax disc to dublin city council.

I just had back surgery and will be off the road for a while

Cheque arrived in the post yesterday but my question is where is the log book ?

Has anyone done this before and how do I get it back on the road ?

    Thanks

    Ronan

Are you sure you haven't inadvertently scrapped your car? Refund is normally only available when a car is notified as permanently off the road AFAIK.

Ask Dublin City Council. It's a bit silly to post off the VLC without knowing the process of getting it back. Is it not on the same website/place you got the information on how to claim the tax back?

Form was filled out only in the area for illness, a letter from gp was sent stating I would be off the road only for the period of the active tax.

I thought the cheque would arrive with the log book. So now I have no log book but a cheque for a few bob. Concerned now. I will call them Monday.

    From the website :

The owner of the vehicle has ceased, because of illness, injury or other physical disability, to use the vehicle

Was just checking the site and it doesn't say how to get it back. I'd think it was a mistake not to return the VLC or else maybe you get it back around the date you are certified to drive again. But a call to DCC or Motor tax is needed Monday to be sure.

Section on the form says that they can't drive till a certain date.

better do the SORD thing too....

I can't think why it would be necessary to send the log book in

Yea I put the date the gp advised so for me it was so it was not permanent.

You don't have to declare off the road if you send in the tax back I think.

This is a bit of a mess. Maybe I should have not bothered but it was 500 worth of tax.

Too late as the car has no tax now. Which means that the OP could be liable for the back tax after getting it refunded!

Thinking on the VLC. Maybe it's the same as when you buy brand new, you don't get the VLC till you tax it.

Yes, could be. You've suspended the registration and can't tax it until the end of the period.

I wonder if the period is set in stone ? If gp signs be ok after 2 months can I then re tax and get cert once that is complete.?

Hope they answer the phone in Monday. .

It would be hilarious if it was declared as scrapped

be interesting to know. I don't think you've declared it scrapped, you need a cert of destruction to do that

Ah pain and medication make you do crazy things.

Worst part is this is a new car to me as I only bought it and I can't drive it or enjoy it. Just sitting there.. frustrating is an understatement

    Monday

Will be on to them first thing. I better not lodge this cheque. Until I sort this out.
I will update the thread incase someone else does this

So I know everyone cannot wait for an update on my dilemma.

Very nice lady explained it all to me.

Log book will be posted back to me asap.

Once I want to put car back on the road I tax it in tax office as normal.

If car is to be off road past the last day of the taxed period I must inform them as I would be liable to back tax.

    So all good.

    Thanks
