    Hi,

Does anybody know how long it takes to get a decision for domiciliary care allowance?

I applied in October for my son and I haven't had anything back yet.

I have been reading up on this on the internet and some people are saying it could take up to 6 or 9 months, and the social welfare normally refuse the first application.

If i am refused, how long does this normally take and can i reapply again?

    Thanks

SW refuse applications where the parent/carer hasn’t demonstrated that the child needs more care then another child the same age.
It’s not true that they refuse all first time applicants.
My husbands sister has 2 girls with diabetes type 1 and she got it first time.
The mistake people make is in thinking that a diagnosis of anything is sufficient to be successful
You really need to accompany the form with a letter describing how your child’s condition means that you have to do slot of extra things with/for the child that a child without the condition doesn’t need done or could do on their own.
DCA waiting at about 19 weeks at the moment.
Have you applied for Carers Allowance/Benefit?

    Hi Splinter,

Yes, I have applied for Carers Allowance, also in October, my son is 8 and has Dyspraxia, is on the autism scale and we are looking for an assessment for ADHD.

I have sent in all the medical evidence and written a long letter advising of the daily care requirements, special support at school and his problems with person hygiene, dressing and eating. He has a very short attention span, has a tendency to fall/bump and injury himself and is subject to frequent outbursts, sometimes physical. Our other son is 6 and is functioning at a level ahead of our 8 year old.

If i am refused do I need to reapply or can i appeal a refusal?

Your letter will help your application greatly.
I hope you told them about taking him to hospital / specialist appointments and how your other children have to make sacrifices as a result of his difficulties.
If you are refused Appeal immediate to the Apealls office in D’Olier st.
I hope you get it and the Carers soon. Happy Christmas .
