Or old rubber/cloth wire the electrician was too lazy to remove when the house got rewired.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

Hmmm, not sure if it's coax. Not that many TV points in the house and why would it have been removed?

OP - you have the wire in a black sack of these wires - you could save us all the guessing and tell us if the cables have one wire, two wires, or a wire surrounded or encased in a covered wire mesh. Or indeed post a pic of a cross-section/end of the wire. Whatever the wires are - they are junk and I don't think that they should be re-used.

    I agree...I wouldn't be putting them up on adverts.ie or ebay... :-)

That's pre-1960s rubber coated cable. Do not use that under ANY circumstances as it is 100% guaranteed to be perished and could expose someone to a very serious fire hazard or direct electric shock.

They're coated in rubber which over time turns brittle and breaks away so you will get short circuits and exposed live parts.

If you're recycling it, just dump it into a WEEE centre. There's such a small quantity of copper, it would be hardly worth your while even bothering. It's also likely to be 'tinned' copper so, might not even be recyclable.

WEEE centre most definitely though as it's potentially toxic in landfill, or if burned.
