Failing to sell car

    Folks any advice appreciated.

Trying to sell my car and I am very surprised at the lack of interest! Have had it up for over a month and not had a single call. Feel it is pretty aggressively priced. I had it valeted in & out, did a good ad with lots of details and photos, and put on both donedeal and carzone. Car is low milage, excellent nick etc. Just surprised I have had not so much as a text - I can see there is lots of Ibizas out there, but this is decent spec too.

    Any feedback?

One thing for readers there: I used to think CarZone was pretty good a few years back. After a week with a premium ad, I had 9 views! I found registration and the ad itself all very clumsy too.

"Sorry, we couldn't find what you were looking for!"

Without seeing the car as the link is broke, I can tell you that attractive PCP deals on new cars and weak sterling making importing from the UK more attractive, these factors are depressing the second hand car market here especially in the private used car market. People also are not going to prioritize or pay much of a premium for extras on small cars. Also at this time of year a lot of focus is on Christmas rather than buying a used car.

Thanks for the bit of feedback - sorry about the broken link!!

Alot of people are going up north for there cars beacuse of the weak sterling. I know a few people who have done in in the last few months. One guy saved nearly 2000 euro.

Please take landscape photos of every photo except the first. Car looks gleaming, but the pics are so squished looking.

    Looks like a nice car.
I know you started trying to sell a month ago but now you are really stuck in the Christmas slow down.
The real problem is that private sales at 10k plus are difficult. Garages offer trade in facilities, warranties and finance. People tend to feel safer dealing with an established dealer rather than handing over 10k to a private seller.

Nice car I must admit. I think Christmas slow down and cheap STG is killing you.
Check the price of importing same car from U.K. and make sure you add on VRT too, plus 500 quid travel expenses.

You won't get any more than that. I've no idea of guide prices unfortunately but it looks ok price wise.

After that you are just into Christmas rush for other things. Remember it's also a year older next month prices always have pressure downwards from above.

seems a high price for a private sale.

Your advert says the road tax is 200 . All the adverts I have seen elsewhere where say it is road tax 270 for the petrol model

this one is a dealer sale and is cheaper.

That dealer one is not the same car at all. OPs car is FR turbo model it's a good bit up the spec levels from the 70bhp 1.2

    I stand corrected.

    OP,

Nice car! Are you only owner? If so, say so in the ad.

Does it have a dealer service history? Does it have any maunufacturer's warranty left? Is there any finance on it?

In other words, a car at >€10k is a risk for a purchaser when bought privately as they have no comeback if something goes wrong. Give as much info as you can to allay those concerns.

I'd also turn on all the electrics for photos and the daytime running lights etc

Here's an example of a UK model. It's from a garage but I think the photos are quite good and might assist you?

    GLWS!

    Lots of good advice there

    - Will take some landscapes - my thinking was most people will be on mobile though so portrait works best there
    - Good point re turn on electrics
    - Im not the only owner. I bought it off a lady about 18 months ago who works for Volkswagen and was getting a company car. Car has never needed anything other than an oil change
    - Fair re £, and re €10k+ through a dealer
    - Should check re manufacturer warranty. No finance.
    - Tax is lower than most as it is a 1.2 turbo, emissions are lower.

Thanks for all the feedback! Not sure how I am going to shift it which is frustrating - spent €100 on sale already.

Take out 1.2 turbo and put in 1.2 TSI 105 bhp.

Also would remove the pic of the satnav and retake the other pictures as they are not landscape

This is a 2 owner car?

    A few tips:

Take out this "If you are buying an Ibiza, you should buy an FR model. A lot more car than a standard model, and you pay less road tax, even though it is a 1.2L Turbo"

Like said above, people seeing the word turbo think 'boy racer' sporty car and that insurance will be high. Its the same engine as 1.2 TSi Polo, so put it as Ibiza FR. Don't tell people what they need to buy, people decide that for themselves.

Remove "Looking for a hassle-free sale. Phone only please" also.

Some people like to text first to get a few questions answered before they move on to ringing so don't cut off potential buyers. When buying a car, I actually make a point of never contacting anyone that puts in lines like 'No text messages' and rules like that or people that don't put a price on their ad (not applicable in your case) So what if someone texts you to ask something that you haven't covered in your ad? You can chose to ignore the ones asking stupid questions or offering peanuts/swaps etc

    Thanks guys

Will do re turbo. My thinking there was like the poster above, a lot of people dont know the difference between and FR and the base model.

Take your point on second one. Only reason I put that in is because the boards sticky advising sale said to stick it in to avoid time wasters, but no harm to change it up now.

Is a two owner yes. I bought it about at about a year old and now Ive had it getting on towards 2 years.

    Cheers

Personally I'd explain your genuine reason for sale as two owners already for such a new car would put me off.

Selling a car towards the end of the year is a bad idea as the car is about to be a year older, and people will wait to the new year to buy one. If they are going for a used car at all they will go to a dealer where prices are slashed to make way for next year's stock.

2 owners on a 2015 car is excessive for most people.
Anyone looking to spend >10k for a smallish family car is going to go to a dealer and either buy new on PCP or buy a second hand with dealer warranty
It's coming up to end of year

For those reasons you'll find it difficult to sell.

I think it’s a nice car too, that’s 1.2 105 is a peach of an engine. I really don’t think it’s over priced either, you might need to wait till Jan when folks are thinking about cars rather than buying presents/ putting up trees etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 128 ✭✭KFed

Good luck with sale o.p. as others have said the time of year is totally against you.

Everyone is focused on christmas, chrostmas parties, christmas dinners etc. Also, its generally cold, dark, wet and miserable out. So the time to go and view a car is totally restricted.

January then a lot of people will be tight for cash after christmas. Personally, as youre asking north of 10k privately, id advise you to keep the ad up but be prepared to keep the car to see you through to spring or longer.

I do think the secknd hand car market is badly impacted by pcp more than anything else. For 300/month why not buy a 181 rather than 151 (even if its 5k upfront and 5k on the back end).

If i was you id advise you to hang in for the long haul. Dont cut the price in dec and jan as even if you took 20% off you might not get interest (other than from a dealer after a bargain) as folks just focused on christmas and getting through january.

It looks a tidy example so id imagine come the spring it will ahift no problem once the price is competitive.

Nice car, photos are decent as is detail in ad text.

So are no easy wins there as there are with so many ads.

That leaves the nasty price question.

I’m not going to pretend to know the value of your car but when your selling your left with two choices, hold out at the current price for just the right punter to come along and think it’s a reasonable deal, or drop the price which will increase your chances of the above happening.

It will sell, but maybe not at the price you think it will.
