Following on from a different thread regarding the club calendars it got me thinking about a few golfing bug bears of mine.

Perhaps someone involved at committee level might enlighten me as to why all clubs dont publish their calendar of events for the following year in late December for example. It cannot be too difficult to tie down the fixtures and layout.

It would definitely make all golfers lives easier if clubs could publish their calender of events so you could plan your weekends, scratch cup visits etc.

That said standardising the scratch cup parameters would be a massive help if every minor was 19+, intermediate 12-18 junior 6-11 etc.

maybe you should Volunteer for your clubs committee and come back to us?.

I'm being smart, I've never served on a committee but have worked in enough clubs to know it takes a bit of time and consideration when planning the following years event... while you have the current years events still active. the Majority of the decision makers are voluntary and meet once a month to discuss these kind of things. Couple all this with trying match up Club events with the GUI events and people being away, Its a an unenviable task.

As a member of a committee for the past few years, it takes time to get a calendar of events up and ready for the following year.
You normally have the AGM in November, new committee takes over, try to organise sponsors, organise dates for major competitions Captains and the like,
Make sure they don't clash with Gui competitions, get it printed up, there you have it. Simple

actually re-reading that post it looks like you want to know the ins and outs of other clubs. I don't see why clubs should have to publish their calendars for the general public.

its more the list of open competitions that i am asking about. other clubs should be able to publish their plans for these at the beginning of the year

Our Club moved away from a printed "fixture card" because it removes the flexibility required. It's very difficult to change Sponsors/ dates of Competitions if it's published in a card. Where I come from, there needs to be flexibility to accommodate some shocking weather at times. Our Competitions Sec. has the 2018 draft calendar done already but only the main dates will be pretty-much written in stone (Captains/ Presidents etc.). All of the Open Comps will be published on GolfNet but these are subject to change.

GolfNet is your best bet there.

We went to print today and had it been agreed at the start of the month, I agree with the opening poster and we always issue it in early December for the year ahead. If any changes are made which is rare it’s communicated with email and on the notice board, but majors will not be moved.

Most club calendars don’t change a lot from year to year and any GUI events are known well in advance.

I reckon having a full time office staff might be the reason why we get it ready in time in comparison to other clubs.

We have ours sorted - started a few months ago with agreeing with the ladies on courses (we lucky to have 2 courses) so full mens club sheets on Sundays. Majors are the same each weekend every year just a matter of securing the sponsors.

Do ye guys know the format of every comp (strokes, stableford etc ) for the whole year or just say every 2 weeks when it goes up on the booking system

Our diary would list the format and most events would have sponsors listed too. They would put events up on the BRS 3 months in advance.
