Toyota Avensis, EML on, code P0171

    My 1.6 08 Avensis engine light came on. The car then idled at 1500 revs approx. Plugged it in to a cheap Obd2 and it says P0171 system too lean bank 1. I've been googling the code and it says possible o2 sensor or MAF sensor needs replacing. Any suggestions on what to try first and how much I'm looking at for repairs thanks

    If it was an O2 sensor it would generally throw its own code. Too lean a mix can be caused by a vacuum leak or a leak in your exhaust near the cat. Check all the vacuum pipes around the inlet manifold before doing anything else.

    Ok I'll take a look soon as.. how big of a problem is this for the car? Ok to continue driving or park it up

    Just to throw in there when braking and the revs fall bellow 1500 the car seems to speed up it's self to get back to 1500?
