    Hi there

I'm trying to buy a laptop for a Christmas present. It will be just used for normal every day use (e.g. Social media, emails etc) but also to play Sims 4. I'm very lost when looking on PC world, DID websites etc and wonder if someone has any advice on what laptops will work for this game.

Budget is around €500, could stretch a bit extra if necessary but would prefer not to go too far avobe that.

    Thanks for your help

Would you buy online? You'll get much better bang for buck, as in near on save €100 and come away with a better machine than going with the likes of PC World and Harvey Norman etc..

Thanks but probably not because of frees around timing

Anything with an i3 will be fine. Avoid Pentium processors starting with 'N' eg N3350 etc. Some AMD processors will be OK too, anything A9 and above should be fine for Sims but only if its significantly cheaper than i3 as it's a lot slower.

I'd avoid all NEW laptops in this price range (below €600), the screens are invariably utter crap.

Get a used Thinkpad or similar business machine:
    https://www.adverts.ie/laptops/lenovo-tp-graphic-workstation-w530-i7-2-7ghz-16gb-500gb-hdd-win-10-pro/12482397

Better build quality, better screen, more RAM, better CPU, better graphics card (GPU).
Would run the game quite well: http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=7782&game=The+Sims+4&popSysReqRAM=12&p_make=Intel&p_deriv=Core+i7-3520M+2-Core+2.9GHz&gc_make=Nvidia&gc_deriv=Quadro+4000M&ram=16&checkSubmit=#systemrequirements

For comparison, the laptop you found doesn't reach either CPU or GPU requirements: http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=7782&game=The+Sims+4&popSysReqRAM=16&p_make=Intel&p_deriv=Core+i3-6100U+2.3GHz&gc_make=Intel&gc_deriv=Intel+HD+Graphics+520+Mobile&ram=8&checkSubmit=#systemRequirements

I'd get the €500 with a 256Gb SSD so that the system feels super-fast.

The link even says the laptop in question easily meets the games requirements - which it does, twice over.

Second hand is grand but you're hardly going to land a child with a 2nd hand Lenovo workstation for a present over a new laptop really in fairness.

Not to mention warranty etc, peace of mind goes a lot way.

    Cheapo machine with 15" 1366x768 over high-end machine with 15" 1920x1080 screen.

ThinkPads also have much better build quality than a cheapo new machine.
I know which I'd rather use in day-to-day & bring to a repair shop.

Thanks for the help both. I went with the Ideapad in the end. Buying second-hand wasn't going to work well given it was a gift. I'm not too worried about screen etc given it's for the Sims only and not for any other games.
