I guys quick question on putting a daily driver off the road for minimum of 2 months.
Car is a e39 530d and was a daily driver.

What can I do to prevent the car being spoiled while sitting doing nothing. Any quick tips

Would starting it once a week be a waste of time ?

    Disconnect battery ?

    Regards

    Ronan

I would remove the battery as it doesn't serve any purpose in an idle car and keeping it in a warmer enviornment like a house might preserve it better.

The only tips I would give would be to service the car when it's in full use again, check you have anti-freeze, covering the seats may prezent mould build up and try leave the car on a flat surface to prevent the brake from sticking.

2 months is not a long time, I'd drive it up or down the driveway a length or so of the car, try to then when parking up leave the car not resting on the same place it was on the tyres.

    Thanks lads .

Can't take the battery out as it's my back that's in bits

I will move in up and down the lane it's in after I recover a bit

Hope fully the alarm led does not drain the battery fully

You could connect a trickle charger.

Yeah, two months is no time. I'd whip the battery out as 2x months of non start in this weather would probably ruin it. Otherwise I'd just park it with the handbrake off so it doesn't seize.

Isn’t the battery in the boot and handy enough to get to?

not sure i can remove it, i cant lift anything and the 530d battery is a heavy one,

handbrake will be an easy one !!

yea in the boot but awkward and a ton weight]

so i might just get some one to start it and move it everyweek
is it true the revs have to be over 1000 to charge the battery ?
