Hi guys, eir installation guy came over to my house to install broadband but couldn't do it since it's an old house and he couldn't find the cable at which to install. He said that we needed to find the broadband cable ourselves and he would come back. We've torn up the skirting boards and found the cable in the below picture. Is this the correct one?

I'd be very grateful if somebody could help to identify it. Eir are no help!

    Thanks!!

Boards won't let me put links in so put http:// before this link to make it live to see it. tinypic.com/r/2v01lsn/9

That shouldnt be it, the drop is normally a 4 wire (2 pair) cable with a black sheath.

If that IS part of it, there'll be a junction elsewhere you should find. Get a torch and pop into the attic.

Hi ed. thanks a lot for the quick message. We'll look into the attic. We just got a new house and don't know where anything is! Do you have a photo somewhere of the cable we need to find that we can use for a reference?

Think the same size roughly as the above, but likely black.

That looks like 2 core electrical flex cable. I'm thinking the phone line coming into your house is underground. Most likely years old and has been covered over by flooring/skirting boards or other renovations. Chances are that it is not the only cable connected to the incoming line which will if not immediately but very soon cause problems if the Tech was to put your modem on the end of it. Depends on what your set up is, look forward to your answer
