Vet Prices for a dog

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone on here knows what a reasonably price is for a regular trip to the vet.

The vet I take our dog to charges €60 just to see him. He's a diabetic so he already costs between €200-€250 a month for his shots and feed. But to add on top of this any time there's an issue with him we have a huge vet bill just to have him seen.

Last month he had a small virus, but it cost €190 for a 20 minute visit that included some antibiotics and a shot.

I am by no means wealthy. I love my dog but this is a massive strain financially. I'm just wondering if these prices are the norm for a visit that may include some medicine? I understand I am paying for the vets expertise and not just their time but it seems very excessive.

Our vet charges 40 for a consultation and whatever extra for the meds. The vet surgeon we had one of our dogs with over the last few months charges 38 for consultation.
Our usual vet tries to use generic versions of medication to keep costs low but that would be added onto the consultation price.

Much like doctors, it all depends on which part of the country - our vet charges €35 for the consultation plus any extras that may be needed. I have always found ours pretty reasonable (even if I complained about having to spend money at the time).

I'm in county galway. It just seems a bit excessive especially when we are going to the same vet for years.

One I go to charges 42 for consult and either 0 or 20 for follow up depending on what it’s for.. Other one we go to is 49 for consult and 30 for follow up every time. :(
