    Hi,

Does anyone have experience of travelling to Spain with an Irish EUFam card without a Spanish/Schengen visa?

    Detail:
I will be travelling with the EU citizen
I require a visa to Spain otherwise

    Thank you

This http://www.spain.info/en_IE/informacion ... equisitos/ suggests that a visa is required, but it seems very high level in how it is written, so I was wondering what it's like in practice

By law, your spouse should be able to travel with you unhindered. Unfortunately, from experience, it depends a lot in the border control agent and their knowledge of EU law.

We always went for a -free- Visa issued by a Schengen country. If you make clear it is for a EU national's spouse, in addition of being free, you should get one lasting a few months or more (ours was valid for 2 years).

Spain is notoriously bad at understanding EU Rules or even recognizing mistakes, they made some huge barney over my Irish Passport card saying it wasn't valid ID, wanted other forms of Identification even though I was flying to a Schengen country and immigration controls aren't supposed to exist anyway.

I'd get the Schengen Visa to be honest, a lot less problems.
