Landlord reference

Hi all When moving from 1 rented accommodation to another and the estate agent is looking for a landlord reference would a previous 4 year old reference be ok? Would it be normal to get a reference from current landlord (of 4 years) before I leave the property? I didn’t want to ask current landlord yet if it’s not the done…

Hi all
When moving from 1 rented accommodation to another and the estate agent is looking for a landlord reference would a previous 4 year old reference be ok?

Would it be normal to get a reference from current landlord (of 4 years) before I leave the property?
I didn’t want to ask current landlord yet if it’s not the done thing.
