Christmas FM...

That title should be amended to Christmas FM 2017 as there is already one thread for Christmas FM for the last three years at least. Alternatively, this could be merged with that thread - maybe that is a better option.

Anyway, it is a good training ground for younger, newer broadcasters. Every year there are a few new names in the lineup. Of course, there are some presenters this year that would be familiar to listeners of Christmas FM over the years such as Garvin Rigby (one of the founders and the one who first thought of this concept) and Keith Shanley. Looking at the profile of some of the presenters, it seems that some are doing this as a hobby rather than as a path to a broadcasting career. Needless to say, all of the people involved, regardless of their type of experience, are volunteering their services for charitable reasons.

Nevertheless, it is always interesting to see who gets involved each year - whether they are an established name in Irish radio, a new name to radio, an almost new name to radio (!), someone with U.K. radio experience (Dave Miller!) or someone with a lot of radio experience without being an established name (think about it!!).

It was great to hear Mike Moloney back on the air yesterday afternoon, and a number of texts into him also said it.

I haven't heard any new names so far, and am familiar with the presenters this year, having presented on the station in other years.

Though, I am not tuning in much at the moment. Although I love Christmas and Christmas music, there is only so much Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer or that Peter Kay time that I can take :P Plus, I wouldn't want to tire of the music so early on.

Agreed. Had it on in the car on Friday; Fairytale 3 times inside 2 hours is a bit too much for even the most hardened Pogues groupie.

Is the Ryan Phillips listed on the website the same one who used to be on SPIN 1038?
