Looking for some advice. For the next few months, I will be commuting 180km daily (2*90) after that I am hoping my commute will be a bit less. Costs of petrol in my 08 Mondeo are pretty high.

What are my best options for an EV? My budget is probably around the 20k mark.

You won't find an EV for that budget that can do the round trip without charging. Have you got work charging?

If you up your budget a bit you could buy an Ioniq which can do a 180km round trip, even in winter.

I thought maybe I could get lucky to get a second hand Ioniq for around 23k maybe? Is that stretching it too much? Even if I have to go to the UK to get it. That would be fine.

    No work charging.

Yes there are Ioniqs now and then in the UK for just under £20k, so you'd get one landed for about €23k. Go book a 24h test drive from a Hyundai dealer here and see how the car goes on your commute. Alternatively, a BMW i3 with the REX (small petrol engine that extends the range), but you will use petrol every day, so the savings are smaller. Also the engine needs maintenance and the motor tax is not as cheap.

Cheers for that. Best place to keep an eye out? Also any tips to look out for?

I have read through most of the threads but sometimes it is easier to ask the experienced owners.

There are no known problems on Ioniq, except a rear brake issue on early cars that is fixed under warranty (my car was manufactured in March and the issue was fixed in the factory by then) and some settings about charging schedules are "lost" sometimes (but this is fixed in a software update that the dealer can do)

I guess keep an eye on Autotrader. The ones that are for sale, are usually gone very quickly as there are plenty of disappointed people having to wait quite long on the Ioniq they ordered, or even turned down completely by the dealers. Cheapest second hand ones in Ireland that I have seen were advertised for €27k which is a bit silly when I paid €25k for mine brand new on the road with metallic paint.

Were there not issues with charging cables getting stuck in the Ioniq?

Some people have mentioned that alright. Hasn't caused me any problems yet. Just lock / unlock the car on the drivers door if the charging cable is stuck has always done the trick for me. And there is a very easily accessible emergency unlock pull cable in the boot (under the flap) if all else fails.

I believe there is a recall on the charger lock actuator, not critical but can be replaced at the time of service.
