I downloaded a new app called open signal. It tells where the strongest mobile phone masts are. Theoretically speaking, should an imsi scanner show up as a mast in the area?

Hey I haven't used that app before but if it's looking for any masts then yes it should show up. However identifying where exactly the mast is and which one is legit vs not legit is a bit more complicated.

You would need to start measuring the signal strength and map it out on a type of heat-map to determine the general location.

You could get a baseline and then track overtime when a new mast pops up. That being said you'd need to be sure that no singers are currently in the area you're mapping.

This would be a nice project......
