Sky Q or Sky+ HD

    Hi.

I want to get sky installed. I spoke to a guy about it and he stopped installing sky 6 months ago. He did advise me that the old SKY+ box was his preferred choice over the new Q box. Of course when I rang sky they said the Q (€25) was the box I needed and I would be making a mistake going for the SKY+ box (€179)

Can anyone tell me if the sky Q box is now the best option and is the SKY+ box a dead duck?

And is there a difference in the install between sky+ and Q, dish, lnb, etc..?

    Thanks

You can get a good sky+hd box on done deal or adverts.ie but the sky offer gives you a new tv. With sky q the lnb they fit is no good for old sky+hd boxes. You need a legacy lnb that has 6 outputs.

So get sky q keep for a year then cancel and use sky+hd but you have to insist on a legacy lnb for it to work. Sky ireland are not too keen and some installers dont even know about the legacy lnb.

Sky q is only on loan so if you cancel they will want it back.

    look on ebay as well.

    Thanks for the reply.

Is the Q box much different from the sky plus box. Do you need to connect to the internet to use it?

Can the Q box lnb be installed on a solid dish that currently has a universal lnb on it or a current sky dish that has a standard sky lnb on it?

Is it just one co-axial cable that is needed if only using the Q box in one room only?

Any other pros or cons with the Q box?

The have to change the lnb.

Ask for a Hybrid one. That has 4 normal outputs (for normal FTA) and 2 wideband for Sky Q.

You could place on either. The Sky collar on these is 40mm. Stick it on the existing Sky dish.

That way you can still watch fta on other boxes or in the event that you cancel down the line, you'll be able to use a FTA satellite box
