Just picked up new/used car over the weekend, and while the paint(black)is in gerally great condition, the bonnet is loaded with stone chips. Anyone recommend DIY method for filling them, as opposed to bonnet respray which I want to avoid unless a last resort.

Chipex and Dr ColourChip's would be two types of kit that are designed for this type of DIY work. Mixed reviews on both - if you've got plenty of patience, it is a job you can do reasonably well. If youve access to a machine polisher and are happy wet sanding to flatten them down you'll do a job that will pass off pretty well...if not, you'll remove the white spotting that can be seen from afar but up close you'll have spots / blobs dotted about the place.

I usually get either a spray can or a small tin of colour matched paint and fill in the chips using a toothpick.

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a spray can if the paint is already mixed and available off the shelf. In this case I just spray a bit of paint into the cover of the can and use the toothpick to fill in the chips with this paint.

If you are looking for a nice improvement over the way it is this method will work well.

If you are looking for perfection a respray is the only way to go imo.

Thanks for the advice, might give both methods a go, and see how it works out.

Maybe try filling them in first and see how it looks. Wet sanding and machine polishing is all well and good but if it goes wrong it could end up making things worse.

Langka is another solution that works with regular touch up paint. You paint on the chips, slightly over doing it, let the paint dry and then use the lanka solution to wear the touch up down until it’s level with original paint.

    Washed the car yesterday,
    Big chip on the bonnet.
Just had it resprayed 2 months ago :(

Actually, out of curiousity, has anyone gotten their bonnet vinyl wrapped in the same colour as the car? Might be cheaper option, and quicker process.

I can't see how it would be a perfect match or really a cheaper option.
